Gemotions

The smell of stale coffee filled the small office. It usually comforted him, but today it was making Michael's stomach churn. He looked at the woman sitting opposite him, the trainee, Jessica. He knew this day would come, but the reality of it hit him like a physical blow.

"Alright, let's go over the client list," Michael began, his voice rough. He shuffled through the papers, his hands slightly trembling. He had memorized the names, the faces, the nuances of each client. He felt like he was giving away his children.

Jessica listened attentively, her pen scratching busily across the paper. Michael felt a sudden urge to stop, to keep the information to himself, but the words still poured out of him. Each sentence felt like a surrender. He had to keep reminding himself to breathe.
