He had gone. No forwarding address, no phone number. Just a curt email reply to Michael's desperate message: "Enjoy the next chapter." Michael reread the email, his thumb tracing the screen. His breaths came in shallow gasps. The walls of his apartment seemed to close in, the air thick and heavy. He sat, frozen, on the edge of the bed, staring at his unfinished sketchpad. The charcoal pencil felt heavy in his hand. He hadn't started a project in weeks, and the knowledge of his mentor's departure made his motivation even more difficult to find.
