The salt spray stung Amelia's face as she stared out at the churning sea. Her hands, balled into fists, trembled against the cold railing. She had driven for hours, desperately seeking fresh air after her conversation with Liam, the supposed architect. He'd been working on a construction site, directing traffic. Her heart felt as though it was lodged in her throat.

Her eyes darted around, searching for a sign, a clue. The vastness of the ocean, once a source of comfort, now seemed to mock her. She felt like she was being watched, monitored.
