Gemotions

I felt a coldness wash over me the moment I saw her. There, behind the counter of the local diner, was Jessica, my friend of many years. She had always told me she was a lawyer. I felt my face drain of color, and my stomach twisted into a knot.

My hands felt clammy. I instinctively took a step back, as if she were a stranger. I knew I wouldn’t eat the meal I had just ordered.

I mumbled something about a forgotten appointment and quickly turned to leave, my legs feeling shaky beneath me. I didn't look back.
