The attic air hung thick and heavy, dust motes dancing in the single shaft of sunlight. Amelia coughed, pulling the box marked “Memories” closer. Inside, amongst faded photographs and forgotten trinkets, lay a neat stack of folders, each meticulously labeled with her name and grade. A tremor ran through her as she opened the first one.

Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat in the sudden silence. Inside, the painstaking penmanship of her younger self stared back at her. A book report on *Charlotte's Web*, complete with her childish scrawl and a teacher's red corrections. The sheer volume of it – every essay, every test, every drawing – was overwhelming. She gripped the folder tighter, her knuckles turning white.

Amelia’s breath hitched. She felt a prickling heat on the back of her neck. What else was hidden here? What other secrets had her mother guarded so carefully? A cold, creeping feeling spread through her, making her muscles tense and rigid.
