Gemotions

“What’s this?” Jason muttered, holding up a file marked, in his mother’s familiar script, “Jason’s Elementary Years.” He found the file in the cupboard above the washing machine. A strange place for such a thing, he thought.

He opened it. Inside, it was a chronicle of his schooling. Test papers, science experiments, the construction paper crafts, all carefully organized. It was disquieting. His chest felt constricted.

He felt a sudden, urgent need to leave, to escape the suffocating presence of all this documentation. He shoved the file back into the cupboard and slammed the door. The sound echoed in the otherwise silent room.
