Gemotions

The coffee cup rattled in her hand. Jessica set it down, the hot liquid sloshing dangerously close to the rim. It was the eyes. The drawings always had those unsettling eyes. Her niece, Chloe, was currently occupied with a felt-tip pen. The current masterpiece was of "Whisper," the creature she had once believed lived under her bed.

A prickling sensation crawled across the back of her neck. She looked toward the window, the sunlight seeming inadequate. She needed to get out, to distance herself from the feeling that she was being watched.

“Chloe, can we go outside and play now?” Her voice cracked, betraying the unease she tried to hide. She had to take control of the situation. She *needed* to.
