The doctor’s words echoed in Elara’s ears, each syllable a hammer blow. "There seems to have been a mix-up… your records… they may not be entirely accurate." Her stomach clenched. A wave of nausea surged through her, cold sweat prickling her forehead. She gripped the edge of the examination table, knuckles white. The sterile white room suddenly felt claustrophobic.

Her breath hitched as she tried to force a smile, but it felt brittle, unnatural. "Mix-up? What… what does that mean?" Her voice was a shaky whisper. She felt a tremor in her hands, and the world seemed to tilt slightly.

The doctor’s reassurances sounded distant, muffled. All Elara could focus on was the growing tightness in her chest, the feeling of something heavy pressing down on her. The silence following the doctor's explanation was deafening, the space around her felt wrong. She wished she could just disappear.
