The sterile smell of the hospital amplified Mia’s unease. When the nurse said the records might be wrong, she felt a sudden chill, a deep shudder that went through her like a jolt of electricity. She couldn’t seem to breathe right.

Mia stared at her hands, the blood rushing into her fingertips and making them feel numb. Her mouth was dry, her tongue thick in her throat. She found herself fiddling with the bracelet around her wrist, a familiar, comforting gesture, but it offered no solace.

She wanted to scream, to lash out, but instead, she just sat there, frozen, the room starting to spin. Each tick of the clock was a tiny, sharp jab. She felt trapped in a nightmare she didn't understand.
