The book, tucked away in the biography section, felt like a physical assault. She didn’t recognise the author's name, but the title, "Eleanor Vance: A Life Unveiled," was an indictment.

She sank into a chair, the leather squeaking in protest. Her gaze darted around the library. The quiet rustle of pages, the murmur of distant conversations, suddenly seemed menacing. Every glance felt invasive. She clutched the book to her chest, as if shielding herself from unseen eyes. She couldn't focus; her mind kept returning to the details she'd read, the private moments now public property.

She felt the urgent need to leave, to escape this place. She glanced towards the door. The librarian looked at her and smiled, and Eleanor quickly turned away.
