Rain lashed against the windows of Amelia's tiny apartment, mirroring the turmoil churning within her. She’d found the letter while re-shelving her books, a small, unassuming slip of paper in a tattered copy of *Pride and Prejudice*. She hadn’t been looking for anything, yet it felt as though she'd stumbled upon a secret.

Her hands shook as she unfolded the brittle parchment. The words, scrawled in an elegant hand, spoke of shadows and a hidden meeting place. Her eyes darted to the window, the darkness outside seeming to press in on her.

"No," she muttered, the word a strangled plea. The floorboards creaked in the silence of her apartment. She quickly got up, moving like a startled cat. She had to get rid of it. But how? The letter was a curse, a whisper of something she wasn't ready to face. She tucked the book and the letter in a drawer and hoped it would all go away.
