The flickering candlelight cast dancing shadows on the walls of her room, making her already erratic breathing worse. She’d found the letter in a much-loved copy of *Anne of Green Gables*. It spoke of a past she’d tried to forget.

She ran her fingers through her hair, her movements frantic. She couldn't breathe. The room felt smaller, the walls closing in.

She scrambled to her feet, desperate to escape. She had to get away. She grabbed her coat and purse, fumbling with the keys, and fled into the night, the letter’s words echoing in her mind.
