The chipped mug trembled in Leo's hands. He’d found it, the tell-tale slight displacement of his journal, on his desk. His heart hammered a frantic rhythm against his ribs. He couldn’t look at Maya, couldn't meet her eyes as she hummed a cheerful tune while organizing her textbooks. The air in the cramped dorm room seemed thick, suffocating. He needed to leave, to get away from her casual proximity. He excused himself, muttering something about a library study session, and practically fled.
