The old photographs, clutched tightly in her hands, offered no solace. Olivia stood on the sidewalk across the street, the air thick with dust and the impending doom of her childhood. Her legs felt wobbly. The knot in her stomach was so tight that she could barely swallow.

Each crunch of the excavator felt like a personal assault. Her mind raced, replaying memories – the scent of her father's pipe tobacco, the feel of the worn carpet under her bare feet, the sound of her mother’s laughter echoing through the house.

Tears welled in her eyes, blurring the scene before her. She desperately wanted to scream, to lash out, to stop the inevitable. But all she could do was stand and watch, paralyzed by a feeling she couldn't name.
