It was the suddenness of it that unsettled Liam. One day, a quiet street. The next, a flurry of activity, and the start of a project that felt personal. He closed all the windows. He could still feel the vibrations.

He stopped answering the phone. He didn’t want to talk to anyone. He just wanted to be left alone. He pulled the covers over his head and stayed in bed. He skipped his usual morning walk.

He felt like a stranger in his own home. He started dreaming of leaving, of finding a place where he wouldn't be disturbed. But he couldn't bring himself to do it.
