The house seemed to shrink before her eyes, becoming smaller and more vulnerable with each passing moment. Anya stared at the scene from across the street. She had paced all morning, unable to eat or focus on anything but the impending destruction.

She’d spent her whole life here. The house was a living embodiment of her family. As the first walls crumbled, a sob escaped her. Her breaths were coming in short, choppy gasps. Her vision blurred, and the world seemed to tilt.

She remembered her mother in the kitchen, her father in the living room, her siblings running through the hallways. The memories, once comforting, now felt like a cruel joke. The house, her haven, was about to vanish, and with it, a part of her soul.
