Gemotions

The phone slipped from David's grasp, clattering to the floor. The voice on the other end, formal and emotionless, had confirmed his worst fears. The notice was on its way. He felt a wave of dizziness wash over him.

He picked up the phone, his hands fumbling, and hung it up. He dropped into a chair, the seat feeling suddenly unstable. His vision tunneled, the edges of the room blurring.

He bit down on his lip, drawing blood, the physical pain a desperate attempt to ground him. He felt the cold sweat clinging to his skin.

He wanted to scream, to lash out, to stop the inevitable from happening.
