Gemotions

Eliza carefully re-read the letter, her hands trembling so much it was difficult. The letter was an indictment. The words painted a portrait of a mother she did not recognize. A wave of nausea rolled over her. She gripped the edge of the desk, her knuckles white.

Her gaze jumped around the room. Sunlight streamed through the window, but offered no comfort. The familiar furniture seemed alien, the shadows playing tricks. She felt a sudden urge to scream, to shatter the fragile peace of the room. She was alone, utterly and completely.

She rose unsteadily, moving away from the desk. She could feel the need to hide. She moved into the closet, a sudden urge to be safe from the revealed truth.
