Gemotions

The sunlight seemed to dim as Chloe listened. The words, "I'm moving to Oregon," hung in the air, heavy and suffocating. She felt a lightness in her head, as if she were hovering just above her body. She stared, unseeing, at the spilled coffee on the table.

She wanted to laugh, to dismiss it as a joke, but the earnest look on Mark's face stopped her. A cold sweat broke out on her forehead. The air suddenly felt thick, hard to breathe.

She tried to speak, but only a strangled sound escaped her lips. She brought her hands up to her face, shielding her eyes. The reality of the situation was starting to take hold. They had been inseparable for years.
