Gemotions

The old house felt empty without her grandmother's presence. Sarah traced the faded ink of the bucket list, her throat tightening. Her grandmother had always been a rock, a source of unwavering support. Now, the paper seemed so frail, so vulnerable, and she felt a sudden and unwelcome tremor.

She hesitated, then began reading, her voice barely a whisper. "Learn to play the ukulele." A smile tugged at her lips. Then she saw the last entry: "Find love again." The smile vanished, replaced by a constriction in her chest. Sarah didn't know how to navigate this, this new landscape of loss.

She put the list down and went to the kitchen to make tea. But the kettle wouldn't boil, the water refusing to sing and the familiar comfort was gone.
