Her breath came in ragged gasps as she scrolled through the tattoo artist’s portfolio. There it was. Her delicate watercolour illustration, rendered in bold lines and heavy ink on a woman’s thigh. The woman was smiling, the artist was proud. She felt a burning in her chest.

She felt a strange disconnect. Her work, her creation, had become something… else. She felt a strange buzzing in her head, as if she were underwater. She needed to… escape.

She slammed the laptop shut, the click echoing in the silent apartment. She wanted to scream. She wanted to disappear. She felt… betrayed.
