Her breathing quickened. She examined the artwork with a growing sense of unease. It was a depiction of a shadowy figure with piercing eyes and sharp teeth – the exact form of *Void*, her childhood imaginary friend.

"Where did you get this idea, little one?" Amelia asked, her voice hardly above a whisper. She fought to keep her composure, but her hands were clammy.

"He visits me at night," her niece, Hannah, said with a casual shrug. Amelia stumbled back a step, her legs suddenly weak.
