The flyer, slipped under the door, was almost innocuous. "Fence Installation - Beginning Next Week." But as he read it, a sense of foreboding settled over him. He felt suddenly trapped, hemmed in. He pictured the fence, a barrier, a physical embodiment of their unspoken disagreement.

He began to sweat, the air suddenly feeling thick and heavy. He sat down heavily, the flyer crumpled in his hand. What had he done wrong? Why were they doing this? He needed to escape, to breathe. He threw open the front door, seeking fresh air.
