He stared out the window, at the bustling city below, and forced a smile as he introduced the new intern, Emily, to the world of advertising. A sense of unease settled in his stomach, souring his usually jovial demeanor. "So," he began, trying to sound upbeat, "This is where the magic happens."

He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to sabotage her training, but stifled it. Instead, he made sure to highlight every potential pitfall, every hidden obstacle. He saw the way she looked at the computer screen, and her quick learning made him feel faint.

The vibrant colours of the office seemed too bright, the constant chatter of colleagues too loud. He couldn't quite meet Emily’s gaze. The idea of no longer being needed was a weight on his chest.
