He’d always been a bit theatrical, but this was different. Mark noticed the tremor in David’s hands as he ordered a ridiculously expensive bottle of wine. The restaurant, a place they’d always considered out of their league, suddenly felt claustrophobic. David, claiming to be a “Head of Global Strategy” for a multinational corporation, kept glancing nervously at the door.

Mark felt a strange tightening in his chest. He took a sip of water, the cool liquid doing little to soothe the sudden heat rising in his neck.

“So, what exactly *is* it you do again?” Mark asked, trying to sound casual, but his voice cracked slightly. David's eyes darted around the room.
