Gemotions

My heart skipped a beat when I saw the name "Chloe Davis." It felt like a punch to the gut. The world warped, becoming indistinct. I couldn't breathe properly.

I stood up abruptly, pulling my chair back with a loud screech. The sound grated on my ears. I needed air, space, escape. I felt the urge to pace, to do anything but sit still.

I headed for the kitchen, searching for a drink of water, anything to calm the agitation that was stirring inside me. The water felt cold against my hands, but did little to soothe the growing unease.
