“I don’t believe it," she whispered, her voice barely audible. The neon sign of "Lucky's Diner" seemed to taunt her as she stood across the street. The article in the local paper. The news. Lucky's was closing. Her heart hammered against her ribs. She felt a burning sensation in her throat.

She ran, crossing the street in a daze, ignoring the honking cars. The friendly faces, the smell of pancakes, the way the waitress always knew her order... it was over. A deep sense of loss consumed her.

She burst through the door, desperate to memorize the place. It all seemed hazy.
