He felt a cold sweat break out across his brow. The cheerful chatter of the yard sale faded to a dull roar in Michael's ears. He could feel his heart hammering against his ribs, a frantic rhythm against the sudden silence. The teddy bear was there. The one he thought had been lost for good.

The woman, noticing his expression, tilted her head. "A blast from the past, huh?" Michael didn't respond. His mouth felt dry, and he struggled to breathe. He wanted to shout, to run, to scream, but he was frozen.

He bought the bear and then quickly left. He felt like he was being watched. The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end. He had to get home. He had to know.
