The wallpaper peeled back with a sickening crunch. Sarah's breath hitched as she worked the corner loose, revealing a dark rectangle where the wall should have been solid. Her heart hammered a frantic tattoo against her ribs. She’d been so excited about the new house, but now... now her stomach felt like it was doing somersaults.

A chill snaked up her spine, despite the summer heat. This wasn’t right. The realtor hadn't mentioned anything about a hidden room. Her fingers trembled as she reached for the edge of the opening. Inside, a yawning darkness beckoned, and a faint, musty odor wafted out. She took a step back, her hand flying to her mouth.

"What in the world…?" she whispered, her voice barely audible. The floorboards creaked ominously beneath her feet as she stood rooted, frozen in place. This purchase was starting to feel like a colossal mistake.
