Gemotions

The used bookstore smelled of paper and dust. I was browsing when I found the letter, tucked inside a tattered copy of "The Picture of Dorian Gray." My heart did a flip, a sudden, unfamiliar flutter.

The handwriting, almost elegant, described a dark obsession, a hidden room, and a dangerous secret. It hinted at something terrible. I reread it, my hand trembling slightly.

I snapped the book shut, my fingers pressing against the worn cover. I needed to get away, to clear my head. A sudden, irrational fear had taken root within me.
