He found the invitation tucked between the bills. A bead of sweat trickled down his temple. His hand, as he reached for it, trembled slightly. He knew what it was before he even looked. It was the one thing he hadn't wanted. His high school reunion.

He sank down into his chair, the paper still clutched in his hand. A cold dread seeped into his bones. The thought of facing those people, of answering their questions, of pretending he was happy – it was unbearable. He felt a pressure building in his chest.

He ran a hand over his face. He felt exposed, vulnerable. Every muscle in his body felt tense. He felt he needed to get away, to disappear.
