He had been having a perfectly good day until that envelope arrived. Now, he felt the familiar prickle of discomfort crawl across his skin. His high school reunion. It was on the calendar and due to occur.

He tossed the invitation across the room. He felt a sudden, inexplicable anger. He’d worked so hard to overcome the past. He'd put it all behind him. Now, this… this reminder.

He rose from his chair, a restless energy coursing through him. He walked to the window and stared out at the street. The thought of seeing those faces, the people who had shaped his teenage years, made him clench his fists. He needed to be alone. He needed to breathe.
