The world tilted. Sarah's usual morning routine shattered into a million pieces. The coffee mug in her hand felt impossibly heavy. The bright kitchen suddenly seemed menacing, the sunlight harsh on her skin.

She’d thought she knew everything. Her parents, her history, the trajectory of her life. The test results, however, painted a different picture. Strangers. Unfamiliar names. A whole branch of her family tree that didn’t exist until this very moment.

She dropped the mug, the ceramic shattering on the floor. The sound, a sharp crack, was the only thing that seemed real. Her knees buckled and she sank to the floor, the shards of porcelain reflecting her bewildered expression.
