Gemotions

The doorbell rang. It was late, the streetlights casting long shadows across the porch. When Maria peered through the peephole, she saw a delivery person holding a package. It wasn't for her. The name on the label read "Victor Sterling." She hadn't heard that name since her last landlord, who had been a shadowy figure.

She slowly opened the door, a tremor running through her. The delivery person simply placed the box in her hands and then turned and walked away. There was no conversation. No goodbye.

Maria brought the package inside, her hands trembling. She carefully set it on the floor, far from her reach. She had to decide whether to open it.
