Gemotions

From the car, David watched the men in hard hats swarming around his childhood home. The knot in his chest tightened with each passing second. He hadn't been back in years, but seeing it, knowing it was about to be destroyed, felt like a physical blow.

He rolled down the window, the cold air doing little to soothe the sudden flush that spread across his face. He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to shout, to warn them, to somehow stop this.

He saw the men pointing, making gestures, and his heart hammered against his ribs. He wanted to turn away, to drive, to escape the impending doom, but he was rooted to the spot, a helpless spectator.
