She slammed the laptop shut, the sudden noise echoing in the silent apartment. Her knuckles were white, gripping the edge of the device. A wave of nausea washed over her. It couldn't be. All that time, all those late nights, the countless failures and triumphs, all rendered… irrelevant?

She paced the length of her tiny living room, her steps quick and erratic. The blueprints, previously a source of pride, now seemed to leer at her from the coffee table. Her stomach churned. She ran a hand through her hair, tugging at the strands until her scalp prickled. It felt like she was trapped in a nightmare.
