Gemotions

The sudden yelp of surprise, and then a playful bark, had Chloe jumping. Her tea cup rattled in its saucer. She peered through the kitchen window and saw the golden retriever, Max, leaping over the fence into her garden. Her breathing quickened; her heart began to beat rapidly. She felt a tingling sensation in her fingertips.

She knew she should stay calm, but the thought of what Max might do, and what he *had* done, made her feel uneasy. He’d dug up her rose bushes last week. She had worked tirelessly planting them, and they were finally starting to grow.

She threw open the back door, yelling. "Max! Get out of here!" Her voice sounded thin and high-pitched. She watched the dog's large, happy face as he turned in her direction.
