The world tilted. Maya’s vision blurred as she scanned the email. The scholarship, her only lifeline, was listed under someone else's name. A burning sensation flared in her chest. She felt a sudden urge to flee the stuffy library, to escape the judging eyes of the other students.

She slammed the laptop shut, the sound echoing in the otherwise quiet space. Her pulse pounded in her ears, a deafening rhythm. Her carefully constructed facade of composure cracked, revealing a raw vulnerability. She gripped the edge of the table, knuckles bone white, attempting to regain her composure. This could not be happening.
