He'd just stepped into the crowded bar, the usual thrum of conversation and laughter filling his ears. Then, amidst the noise, he heard *it*. The opening riff of his song, unmistakable. His song, but performed by someone else.

His head began to swim. He felt a wave of nausea, like he was about to fall. He stumbled to the nearest empty stool, clutching the edge for support. His palms were slick with sweat. He swallowed hard, trying to regain control.

The singer's voice was a flat imitation of his own. He was just a thief. A fraud. The blood roared in his ears. He wanted to shout, to run, to disappear. A bitter taste filled his mouth.
