Gemotions

The rain hammered against the windows, mirroring the pounding in Arthur's chest. He'd found the letter in a box of old photographs. It was from his former best friend, a man he'd believed dead, lost in the war.

He sat at his desk, the letter under a pool of lamplight, and reread the apology. Every sentence was a betrayal. He felt his hands begin to shake.

He slowly rose from the chair. He felt a knot in his stomach. He went to the window, the image of the letter burned in his mind. The storm outside seemed to be echoing his own turmoil.
