The room seemed to spin. The email’s subject line, “Project Overlap,” was now etched in his mind, forever. He scrolled through the attached documents, each line, each paragraph, a hammer blow to his gut. The shared project was more than just a coincidence. It was a complete carbon copy.

He felt a wave of nausea, a churning in his stomach that threatened to overwhelm him. He pushed away from his desk, the chair screeching against the floor. He needed to move, to do something, anything, to break free from this suffocating reality. He paced, his steps heavy and uncertain.

He reached for his phone, and fumbled for a number. His mouth moved, but no sound came out.
