The afternoon sun cast long shadows as David stared at the box. He’d found it while clearing out his late father's workshop. Everything inside was familiar, yet utterly foreign. It was like looking at a distorted mirror image of his own life. He didn’t understand any of it.

He swallowed hard, his mouth suddenly dry. He found himself running his hands over the smooth surface of a small, wooden doll. It felt…off. The details were wrong. He felt a need to break something, to shatter the feeling of unreality. He kicked at a nearby toolbox, the metal clanging loudly.
