The professor’s words seemed to echo in his ears: “A brilliant essay, a true example.” He clutched his coffee mug, his knuckles white. The essay about his complicated relationship with his father, the one he poured his heart into. Now, it was being used as a model for other students.

He couldn't meet the professor’s gaze. He felt a burning sensation in his cheeks. His pulse quickened, his breath coming in shallow gasps. He wanted to disappear.

He mumbled a hurried goodbye and practically ran out of the classroom, the words of the professor still ringing in his ears. He had to get away, to find a place where he could think, a place where he could be alone with his secret.
