He stared at the blank screen of his laptop, the cursor blinking tauntingly. His sister, Carol, had announced her intentions to him earlier. He hadn't been able to type a word since. He ran a hand through his hair, the strands catching on his fingers.

He had to respond, but every word felt inadequate. He got up and began pacing the small living room.

He’d always known Carol was searching, but this… this was unexpected. He felt a pressure in his chest.

She had told him: “I’ve found solace in the Baha’i faith.” His hands clenched into fists. He had to be calm. He had to understand.
