Gemotions

The bell above the door jangled, a discordant sound that made David flinch. He walked faster, the feeling inside him growing stronger. He felt like he was about to burst, a coiled spring ready to snap. He was aware of everything; the way the sunlight hit the dust motes, the scent of old leather and metal. He had to be quick.

He scanned the jewelry, his heart thumping hard against his ribs. He felt restless, unable to stand still. The anticipation was almost unbearable. He had to find it. He had to see it.

He saw it, and his legs nearly gave way. The emerald. The setting. He felt his hands begin to shake. The world tilted slightly. He had to steady himself against the counter. He took a shaky breath. His grandmother's ring.
