The crisp autumn air whipped through the open window, carrying the scent of fallen leaves. She found herself snapping at the new hire, David, as she explained the intricacies of the customer database. She hated that she felt this way. She was usually very calm. She felt her patience beginning to fray at the edges.

"No, no, that's not right," she said, her voice rising slightly. She stopped. She took a breath. She pushed back from her desk, the squeak of the chair grating on her ears. David looked at her expectantly.

She had to get a grip. She forced a smile. She needed to make sure he understood the system.

She pushed herself to remain calm, but inside she was a bundle of nerves. She re-explained the procedure. She watched David's fingers fly across the keyboard, she noticed the mistakes. She pointed them out.
