The cold water splashed against her face, jolting her. She stared into the mirror, her eyes wide, reflecting the bright fluorescent lights. The anticipation was both exhilarating and paralyzing. This job, at the gallery, would be a dream come true. Both she and Liam, her friend, knew the owner well.

Her breath hitched as she heard a car pull into the driveway. Liam. She could feel his presence before she saw him, a kindred feeling of excited tension. The image of the interview questions played on repeat in her mind.

She scrubbed at the stubborn smudges of sleep still clinging to her eyes. Each movement was precise, deliberate. The butterflies in her stomach did not stop their constant fluttering.
