Gemotions

The traffic seemed to crawl, each second a painful eternity. The sight of David, at a construction site, filled his view. He could not keep the tears that threatened to fall from his eyes. His friend had always told him stories, stories of boardroom meetings and business trips to exotic locations. Now, he was watching him swing a hammer.

He felt a hollowness in his chest, a sense of having been played. The carefully constructed narrative of their friendship felt suddenly fractured, and he wanted it to stop. He felt a throbbing sensation in his temples.

He pulled over to the side of the road, the car vibrating with the sudden shift in speed. He needed to get a grip on himself. He took a few deep, ragged breaths and he reached for his phone.
