Gemotions

The silence in the apartment was deafening, broken only by the rhythmic clicking of Ethan’s jaw as he chewed on the inside of his cheek. He had been pretending to sleep when he heard the voice. It wasn't loud, but the way it made him feel -- his heart racing and his palms damp -- was inescapable. He pretended to have moved and then listened as his partner, Liam, went into the hall.

He slowly rose from the bed, his feet padding softly on the carpet. He kept his eyes on the small slit of light under the door. He tried to think of what to say, but his mind seemed to be a scrambled mess. The door opened and the call ended.
