The courtroom felt oppressively still, the air thick with tension. Across from the witness stand, Amelia, her face pale, repeated her testimony. "I remember him confessing. He admitted everything. It was all very clear, very stark."

Across the courtroom, Daniel's attorney met her gaze, his expression unreadable. Beside Amelia, her partner, Mark, squeezed her hand. "The plea agreement… you remember the plea agreement, don’t you?"

Mark nodded, his eyes fixed on Amelia. "Yes, they made a deal. It's a deal that worked out for everyone. It was the only way." He seemed as calm as stone. Amelia felt like she was underwater.

Amelia’s voice cracked. "No, I remember a trial, a guilty verdict. I remember the sentencing. I remember justice." The details burned in her mind.

Mark looked at her, his face a mask of concern. "Amelia, you need to relax. The trial was so long ago. You were so tired. Maybe it's the stress." He tightened his grip on her hand.
